On 16 November 1860,the S.S Truro sailed from Madras, India into the bay of Durban ,Natal. On board were 342 people -5% Christians. They were the first group of Indians to settle on the south eastern shores of South Africa. Some 100 years later, in the early 70’s,Bishop Emmanuel Moodley,then a young man in his mid-20’s,stood among the lush sugar cane plantation on the vacant lot of which now stands the Clayfield Campus of BMI,and dared to dream.

Standing amidst the lush cane stalks on lot 233 Clayfield Drive,with the late founder of the Bethseda Movement, Pastor J.F.Rowlands an American Evangelist,Rev.Carl Richardson, Bishop Emmanuel Moodley shared his dream of constructing the first home for Bethsaida. That day they committed his dream and vision into GOD’S hand.A dream,however,only becomes reality through tears and toils, determination and dedication; constant vigil and clear vision,and prayer and petition-some of the many character traits we saw in the founder of BMI.

In South Africa the first nationwide television broadcast was aired on 5 January 1976.Not long after ,Bishop Emmanuel Moodley was among the first few Indian pastors who were afforded the opportunity to participate in the evening Epilogue Programme and later the “The Kingdom Come ” Sunday evening church programme on SABC TV. In 1993 he joined Evangelist Carl Richardson and a group of American evangelists on a historic church-planting mission in Russia.Many of these churches are still vbrant,fruit-bearing churches to this day. Bishop Emmanuel Moodley ,as itinerant evangelist,preached the gospel in more than 70 countries of the world ,most notably India and among other indian diapora population

In July 1994 The General Assembly of the church of God met in San Antonio Texas for its 89th General Conference. Dr.Moodley was the key note speaker at the illustrious gathering of church leaders-30000 delegates present.He was the first South African Indian since Pastor J.F Rowlands to address the general
